Detroit MI recalls, include the 2010-2011 C and E class models of Mercedes. Reported by the manufacturer on October 4 to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, this recall could affect up to and more than 85,000 vehicles. The recalled models are the 2010 Mercedes Benz 204 C-Class and 212 E-Class. Also recalled are the 2010-2011 Mercedes Benz 207 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet models.
The problem lies in the hydraulic power assist pump. It seems the power steering system may fail due to loss of power steering fluid. The Detroit MI recall will eliminate the possibility of losing control in places that need a lot of power steering such as parking lots.
If any buyers think this recall will affect them, they can stop by any Mercedes dealer and have their connection fitting checked for free.
There is a NHTSA investigation underway for a similar issue in the BMW Mini Cooper and Mini Cooper S 2004-2005 models; and the 2005 Mini Cooper Convertible. According to the NHTSA, 54 BMW drivers reported an unexpected loss of power to the steering assist while driving the vehicle that may be related to the power steering pump.
Also, General Motors is in the middle of a Detroit MI recall of 322,409 Chevrolet Impalas from the 2009 and 2010 models. The front seat belt webbings may not be properly secured to the lap belt anchor on the side of the seat. The problem with this is the possibility of the anchor separating in a crash. Again, dealers will inspect both front seat belts for any customers and will replace and reinstall as needed. Customers will be notified by General Motors around October 25 by mail.
