Subaru Impreza WRX STI RB320: In memory of Richard Burns

To commemorate the unfortunate death of Subaru rally ace Richard Burns, who passed away last November from brain cancer at the age of 32, Subaru unveiled a special edition of its Impreza WRX STI model.

Called the RB320, the commemorative STI is available only in Obsidian Black featuring bespoke 18’’ alloy wheels and specially developed Prodrive suspension comprising Bilstein dampers, a sports spring kit with revised rear anti-roll bar and a ride height lowered by 30 mm at the front and 10 mm at the rear.

Also standard on the RB320 are a chrome mesh front grille, front lip spoiler, quickshift gearchange, side sill plates and RB320-branded gear knob, carpet mats and exclusive exterior badging. Each owner will also receive an individually numbered black alloy tax disc holder. The PPP boosts power to 320 PS at 6,000 rpm with torque leaping to 332 lb ft at 3,700 rpm. This reduces the 0-60 mph time to 4.8 seconds with a 0-100 mph (160 km/h) time of 12.2 seconds.

As a further incentive, customers placing early orders with deposits will be offered a limited number of places at a special RB320 launch event next March at Prodrive’s test track in Warwickshire.

Although the RB320 carries around 11.350 USD / 6.000 GBP worth of extra equipment it costs in the UK 56.950 USD / 29.995 GBP - an increase of only 5.700 USD / 3.500 GBP. The proceeds will go to the Richard Burns Foundation, which helps those suffering from serious injury and illness.

2007 Subaru Impreza WRX STi spec C Type RA-R

Besides having every letter of the alphabet this latest incarnation of the Impreza WRX STi, the spec C Type RA-R has the heavily reworked 2.0L flat-four of last year's Impreza S204 producing 320Hp @ 6.400 rpm and 44,0 kgm of toque @ 4.400. That's not the only thing in common that these two versions have, as both are limited production editions offered solely in Japan -though the spec C Type RA-R will be more rare as only 300 examples will be built in comparison to the 600 S204's.

Besides the upgraded engine, the RA-R gets a retuned suspension, lowered body (by 15mm) and 18" white coloured rims. Talking about colours, the spec C Type RA-R will be solely available in yellow, white & blue mica.

Although the body is practically intact in comparison with the "base" STi- as the only additions are a black coloured front lip spoiler, a roof scoop and the red accent surrounding the centre grille- Subaru has a hefty optional list. You can add a carbon fibre rear-deck spoiler, BBS style alloys, and of course, the "you've got to have them", Recaro buckets. Via Autoblog.com

Scooped : 2007 Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X & Subaru Impreza WRX STi

I got my hands on this week's Autocar magazine that features two wonderful photoshops of the upcoming Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X & its Subaru counterpart, the Impreza WRX STi. Here's a summary of what they wrote:

Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X : According to Autocar, we're going to get a first view of the EVO X in the form of a production ready concept, at the Detroit Motor Show in January with the actual production version following in the Tokio Motor Show in October the same year. The most interesting fact though is that Autocar say's that the being a member of the Lancer family, the EVO X will be based on the Dodge Caliber platform !

Subaru Impreza WRX STi : As most of us know, the next generation Subaru Impreza will be offered for the first time with a 5door hatchback body. Autocar, tells -and shows us through it's nicely made photoshop, that the new Impreza's design will be "Europeanized". As for the mechanics, the top spec STi will be again fitted with Subarus 2.5 Litre boxer motor. via : Autocar

Subaru Impreza WRX STI Executive - The casual STI

Ok, a basic Impreza 1.5R (click here to read more: Subaru Impreza 1.5R) I can get, but a basic Impreza WRX STI without its huge rear wing ? Sorry but in my book that's like seeing Burt Reynolds without a mustache if you ask me, but if that's what the Dutch want, what can I say. Anyway, Subaru Netherlands (Holland) presented a more casual dressed version of their Impreza WRX STI named Executive -I wonder who thought of that...

Basically, the Dutch removed the wicked bad spoiler of the STI, put on WRX fog lights and replaced the sexy gold alloys with more down to earth, silver colored 17 inch wheels. Spoiler aside, its identical to a UK version called Impreza WRX STI Spec. D -see the left hand photo bellow. The Executive is available in four colors only, light grey, black, dark grey and white and it carries a price tag of 52.285 euros in Holland.
