2011 Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 priced around $550,000; spends time at the tracks

Mercedes has finally released the pricing of their tuned-up rocket ship that also goes by the name of the 2011 SLS AMG GT3 race car. Prepare to hang on to your bank accounts, gentlemen. The racing version of the SLS AMG will come with a price tag of €397,460 – that's about $550,000 in today's current exchange rate.

The car is available for purchase by order through Mercedes-AMG GmbH, so if you're a racing team that's itching to compete in the FIA GT3 championships, you may have found your car. Of course, you're going to need a trailer full of money to be able to afford one, but hey, you have to pay to get the best, right?

If you don't have a team, but you've got a bank account fatter than the Michelin Man, then you can likewise order your own SLS AMG GT3 for your own enjoyment on your private race track.

Now, if you're like the rest of us that has neither a race team nor a ton of money at our disposal, we can take comfort in this 21-minute video of the SLS AMG GT3 doing some test runs at the EuroSpeedway in Eastern Germany.

That's the best we can do, unfortunately.

Press Release after the jump.
