BMW AUDI OR Mercedes Benz?

Question 1
BMW AUDI OR Mercedes Benz?...  if it was up to me id get a Maserati hahaha

compare and contrast the 3. im shopping around and the dealer is always gunna trash talk the other brand and put theirs on pedestal. so im gunna ask your opinion.

Which do you think is better Mercedes Benz or Audi or BMW??

Answers
1)   I LIKE PORSCHE Lol - iown

2)   I definitely go for the Masi too haha, but i know my german makes and i've worked at a shop for a couple years, so trust me on this.

Mercedes: Parts and Labor (Maintenance) will KILL you. Besides that, they last a while, comfortable to drive. They feel pretty good on the inside, especially compared to an Audi.

Audi: These and VWs (Audi's parent company) are the least reliable of the group and have the cheapest overall feel in terms of construction and materials. Probably the cheapest to maintain of the group, but not by much. Besides that, they are a bit more sporty to drive than a Merc, and i've always gone for sporty over comfortable.

BMW: In my opinion, they are easily the best of the three. Easily most fun to drive, last longer than Audis and about as long as a Merc. Again, with any german lux car, they aren't the cheapest to maintain. You will find that BMWs are more expensive to buy used than VWs/Audis but still manage to be a bit cheaper than Mercs. Still, BMWs tend to be a bit more reliable than the Mercs or Audis and that's a must.

If you want sporty/relatively more reliable, go for Bimmer.
If you want comfy/status, go for Merc
If you have a smaller budget and still want a relatively sporty german car, go for Audi, but they really aren't as special as most people think, and they are less reliable and feel cheaper too. - Adrien

3)   Adrian is high. Audi's have very nice interiors. If you read many car reviews, the reviewers say that Audi's have a nicer interior design than BMW and Mercedes. In the recent years, Audi has become much more reliable. In my opinion, BMW's have plainer interiors (especially the 3 series), and Mercedes have a very non-modern feel. Google images the Mercedes E series, you might puke a bit in your mouth. The exterior of that car looks ridiculous. Also, their recent suv the GLK350, has very American like interior. No aluminum trim panels or anything. Their B200 uses hub-caps so I wonder who is cheaper. I must say, the CL65 looks very nice and the S600 is very luxurious. If you pick BMW, get a M3 or something higher than the 1/3 series.

But really, go to the dealerships yourself and pick the cars you like. Any commenter here will be biased including me. I'm a fan of Audi and BMW.

Adrian please stop. So what if Audi is by VW? So is Lamborghini, Bentley, Porsche etc. Mercedes is owned by Chrysler. And no they don't feel cheap, I doubt you have even sat in one moron. - blinkee

4)   check first where the mercedes is made, many have engines built in malaysia or indonesia and bodies or even the whole car built in south africa and are way below german engineering standards, most BMWs have too much power for their light rear end and are tail happy and you can spin them in wet or icy weather REALLY easily, the Audi A4 or A6 quattro are far better than any of the other ranges and the S4 S6 and S8 are in a class of their own for safety and performance - Harley Drive

5)   audi - Wayne

Question 2
Bmw 330i or Audi A4 1.8T?...  They are both 2010 model locally assembeled

pros of BMW: much stronger engine, nice exterior, perfect interior (idrive), it is a BMW.
cons of BMW: it will reshape soon if anyone knows when exactly please tellme

Pros of Audi: not bad engine, nice exterior and interior
Cons of Audi: front wheel drive, it looks a bit cheaper then the bmw

Answers
1)   they are completely different cars the BMW has a 3 liter engine and rear wheel drive that can lose the rear end on wet or slippery surfaces the Audi has a small turbo engine and front wheel drive and is possibly several thousand cheaper - Harley Drive

2)   Where are you getting a 2010 A4 1.8T. Since about 2005 the A4 has been a 2.0T. My only guess is you may not be in the USA. As for looks, it you think the A4 looks "cheaper" than go for what you enjoy. Personally, I think the A4 looks alot more refinded, and Audi is known for their interior. Also look into getting the Quattro version if it's not much more. The LED's on Audi's are head turners. Also you can reprogram the ECU on a turbocharged A4 to the poitn where performance may actually slide more towards the Audi. Also I like to stand out a bit, and BMW's are just about everywhere, while Audi's allow you to still drive German lux. but be different while doing so. - davesoc

3)   The 2001 - 2006 BMW 330i is one of the most reliable cars ever built, I have seen more than a dozen with 200K that still have some juice left. The A4 is sporty but the Turbo doesn't kick in that early and will not keep up with the 330i. The A4 will cost more to maintain over the long haul. Both cars are nice but the BMW will outperform the Audi and be a better investment. - sellexoticcars

4)   A4 every time - Wayne

1)   well you could bluebook the car and see the real Value of it. i see he has some after market stuff on it. so he may want a little more. try to knock him down 500 and get it for 9grand - Camaro z28

2)   You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here - carinsurance.deep-ice.com - Vins

3)   if it is the 2.7 turbo and hasn't had new turbos recently you will be looking at 2500 -2800 to replace them, it has had new front axles(drive shafts) but if the front bearings haven't been replaced as well you are looking at 5-600 a side for those, it should have had all new hoses as well as they are not cheap - Harley Drive

4)   buy it - Wayne

1)   audi is well known for expensive engine and transmission issues, it is a very expensive Volkswagen, a honda, or a nissan is generally much better for being a good dependable cars, however, like any car maker, all of them have good and bad years, and some cars are better by design, for example, if you want a car that is not as expensive to repair then stick with front engine, rear wheel drive. because cars that are front engine front wheel drive have so much stuff crammed up in the front, sometimes it takes four hours labor, just to get to a part that broke, then 4 more hours to put it all back together, also front engine cars transmissions are almost twice as expensive to rebuild, and once again, you have to take apart major systems like the steering for example. You do not have to do this in front engine, rear wheel drive cars, so do your research and find a car that is in good condition. Always take any used car to a mechanic for inspection before you buy it, a dealer or private party car is not going to necessarily tell you the truth about mechanical condition, A mechanic works on broken cars, day in and day out, he can tell you which ones are good, and which ones are not, so take a car you are interested in to a mechanic.
before you buy it and get someone else problems.
I learned a few things about used cars over the years, one way to help eliminate lemons, is test drive a vehicle cold, after at least sitting overnight. Start it up, it should smooth into a high idle in 5 to 10 seconds, with no loud banging or clanging sounds, no weird rattles and no big puffs of smoke. Let it warm up a minute or two, then drive it like you stole it. If it runs, drives and stops good cold, and can get up to freeway speeds easily, it may not be in too bad of shape. - dick car guy

2)   my brother owns a 2001 audi s4. i know many people with 1.8t a4s. let me just say that if you ever need to replace anything be prepared to dig deep into your wallet. and yes you have to use 93 octane. it has a turbo, i wouldnt use any other gas except 93 in a car with a turbo. my brother rear ended someone like a month ago, all he did was crack the front bumper and bent the hood and cracked the radiator. the repair costs were almost 8000. now my honda, if i ever need to replace the engine i cant find an engine, trans, and everything to do the swap for less then a grand. thats just to put things in perspective. - Bob

3)   You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here - carinsurance.deep-ice.com - Michael

4)   Ok I just bought an 03 and can answer most of these questions for you. You will want to know about the timing belt, as in whether or not it has been replaced. You want to check all the tubing under the hood for cracks or weathering. You also want to know if your coil packs have been replaced, because if not they are free from the dealer. Make sure the axles in the front aren't slinging grease. Look down and right under the hood and you should see the CV Boot.

Also I wouldn't buy it without a prepurchase inspection by an audi specialist. Should cost about 90 bucks. Most of these guys don't lie because they have no reason to. They would rather tell you things are wrong so you can negotiate the price with the seller and then get the needed repairs done with them.

It will be more for the labor than a front engine rear wheel drive, and parts that are genuine audi are kinda expensive. It will still be less expensive to tune up or replace parts than a front wheel drive v6. (Most likely what you are considering from Honda or Toyota if you want anywhere near the power of this audi)

To put things in perspective I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant and parts are cheap but a tune up takes like 8 hours which i was quoted north of 500 without the parts by multiple shops. I ended up buying the plugs wires and gasket set all for 100 and i got Bosch Iridium Fusion and saved a ton of money.

I myself am a mechanic and i enjoy the learning process from vehicle to vehicle. The audi comes in a beautiful total package. 6 disc in dash cd changer,10 speaker audio, leather(I will never buy cloth again), great auto leveling headlights, sport suspension. I would recommend the quattro as it handles like a dream in the rain.

To they guy who can get a honda engine and tranny for 1000, you aren't getting a vtec or a v6 so comparing a 4 banger to a turbo audi isn't even right.

Oil changes from what i understand are more expensive because they recommend full synthetic, however need to been done in longer intervals than the japanesers. After using full sythetic on my mitsu i would say this. No matter your vehicle always get the best oil, gear fluid, and tranny fluid for your car. It may cost 15 more for an oil change or 30 more after a transflush but its better than a new motor or tranny.

Tuneups are basically nothing on this car. A monkey could do it. It would cost less than 100 assuming you have a spark plug socket, 6 inch extension and a ratchet.
Premium gas differs from area to area. I APR chipped mine so i run 93 octane for my 93 program.
91 octane is fine for a non chipped car, but 93 would be better.

To sum it up I would say if you are on a tight budget then this may not be the car for you, but overall I doubt it really costs much more. If you were considering a FWD V6 you should probably get the Audi instead. I cant drive a 4 banger as it just doesn't have the get up and go that I enjoy as an auto enthusiast. I love mine and wouldn't trade if for AND honda or toyota ever besides maybe a 97 supra. The A4 has a Great engine, great suspension, great audio, great presentation, Awesome overall package in my opinion. Test drive the A4 and then anything else and see what you like.
By the way other vehicles in this class are the Lincoln LS, BMW 3 series, Mercedes E Class, and one other i cant think of... - Jake B

Question 5
A 2002 Audi A4 Quattro with 200XXX miles on it. how many more miles would you expect from this car?...  i love this car, but the problem is that it has a lot of miles on it, and i cant affort the other expensive ones with the low mileages.
do these cars usually lives long like toyotas.

Answers
1)   10,000 - Spike

2)   This is a very vague question. No one can answer you for sure because they have no idea who owns the car and what kind of mechanical shape it's in.

With that said Audi is a very reliable car. European cars generally tend to last much longer then most. I would say the biggest factor in contributing how much longer it will last will depend on you. If you take care of right, (not jerking it around when driving, changing oil, regular maintenance) this vehicle can last much longer. I can't give you the exact mileage though.

I'm from Europe and I've driven cars that have a legit million miles on them. If your Audi was made in Germany then it might be better quality and may last longer, some are manufactured in the US though. - bos

3)   if you have been doing regular fluid changes/ upkeep (oil, power steering, trans, gear fluid, belts, air/ oil/ fuel filters) then it should be good for at least another 50k, especially with good driving habits. if you really want to have it keep going forever i suggest swapping oil to mobile 1's synthetic oil, it is the best oil out there, arguably, and synthetic oil out performs conventional. audi and volkswagen are sort of the same manufacturer, much like ford and lincoln, so the car will last comparably. and volks are really dependable, not quite on the scale of toyota, but still better than most - McDewbie

4)   plenty more, i own an 80 2.0e on a j plate 1992, and its done 231XXXXXXX and it runs fine even without regular service, would'nt worry. - Wayne
