Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 wins the Nurburgring North Loop

After its debut race failure at the VLN Endurance Championship at Nurburgring, the Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 has won the ninth race of the VLN long-distance championship this past Saturday at the same famous track.

The car was raced by Thomas Jger (33) and Christopher Haase (23) as part of private team Black Falcon. The duo began in seventh place on the grid with both drivers showing tremendous driving skills that led them to their eventual victory. Thomas Jger started the race off by speeding past three other cars and reaching fourth place in the very first lap with their SLS AMG GT3, start number 738. After that, the gull-wing racer made its way past several other cars to take the first place position in the 10th out of 20 laps. Christopher Haase then took over and was able to keep his position by attaining the fastest lap time of the race (9:24.565 minutes) on the 13th circuit.

The second place position would have been taken by the GT3’s sister car driven by Christian Mamerow, but, unfortunately, that car collided with the leading Audi R8 LMS piloted by Frank Stippler/Marc Basseng on lap five. The car was then taken out of the race due to a damaged wheel suspension.

Press release after the jump.
